Rickets is a disease that many associate with poorer developing
countries. It was believed to be eliminated in developing countries
shortly after the end of WWII. But we are starting to see the re-
emergence of this disease today.

It is a disease that is caused by vitamin D deficiencies during
infancy and early childhood. This vitamin is essential to the normal
absorption of calcium into the body. Calcium is one of the most
abundant minerals in the body and helps us to develop strong bones and
teeth. In adults vitamin D deficiency will increase the breakdown of
bone leading to diseases such as osteoporosis while in infants and
small children it will increase the chances of getting rickets.
